One of the most influential and beloved author-illustrators of our time is coming to Bristol! We are incredibly excited to welcome Oliver Jeffers to our city to mark the release of Begin Again, his first picture book specifically written for all ages, a work of existential scope and wonder.

We are beyond thrilled that Oliver will be in conversation with illustrator and author Dapo Adeola, the award-winning genius behind the ‘Look Up!’ series of picture books. This will be a one-off chance to hear two of our finest illustrators in conversation in the incredible surroundings of the Royal West of England Academy (RWA).

About Oliver Jeffers

Jeffers’ engagements and practice are truly International in scope. His critically acclaimed picture books have been translated into over fifty languages and sold over 14 millions copies worldwide. His original artwork has been exhibited at such institutions as the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the National Portrait Gallery in London, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. 

Jeffers has been the recipient of numerous awards, in eluding a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Books Award, Bologna Rigazzi Aware, an Emmy award for Studio AKA and Apple’s adaptation of Here We Are, and an MBE from Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth for Special Services to the Arts. Begin Again will be released in October 2023.

About Dapo Adeola

Dapo Adeola is an illustrator, author and character designer who was awarded Illustrator of the Year at The British Book Awards in 2022. Dapo rocketed into the picture book world with his greatly acclaimed illustrator debut, Look Up!, written by Nathan Bryon and published by Puffin in 2019, which won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2020. Dapo illustrated My Dad is a Grizzly Bear and My Mum Is a Lioness written by award-winning author Swapna Haddow (both published by Macmillan Children’s Books), and collaborated with Malorie Blackman on their picture book We’re Going to Find the Monster!

Dapo made his author debut in 2021 with the Puffin published picture book Hey You!: An Empowering Celebration of Growing Up Black, featuring 18 talented Black British illustrators, which also went on to win Illustrated book of the year at The British Book Awards in 2022.

Born in Britain and of Nigerian heritage, Dapo is an avid believer in the importance of equal representation in the creative arts. He currently lives in London.
